Championship Cycle Policy

- General Regulations

- The order of tie-breaks used in qualifying events
are:

- Head to
head
- S.B.
- ELO
- Median
- Solkoff
- Players qualify out of one event only, but may play in
any qualifier they are eligible for.
- The fastest time control allowed in a qualifying event
is Game/60.
- City Championship Qualifying Events

- The first class of qualifiers come out of the city
championships.
- Allowable formats for city championships are:

- Ladder
Tournament (not recommended)
- Round Robin or Double-Round Robin
- Swiss tournament consisting of four or more
rounds
- The number of qualifiers from any tournament are as
follows:

- Ladder
Tournament - ladder leader only.
- Round Robin or Double-Round Robin - the top
½ of the Championship section; the top two of
the reserve section
- Swiss tournament - the top four players of the
Championship section
- City Championships are normally run sometime during the
sometime during the period of January through March.
- Participation in a city championship is restricted to
those players living within the surrounding ICU
Unit unless a commisioner’s exemption has been granted by the ICU.
- Unit Championship Qualifying Events

- The second class of qualifiers come out of the Unit
championships.
- The following Units are recognized:

- Treasure Valley
(Ontario, Oregon - Glenns Ferry)
- Magic Valley (Hammett - Rupert)
- Upper Valley (American Falls - Driggs)
- Long Valley (Donnelly - Coeur d'Alene)
- Silver Valley (Wallace - Sandpoint)
- Sun Valley (Sun Valley - Ketchum)
- The allowable type format for a Unit championship is a
four or five round Swiss.
- The number of qualifiers from a Unit Championship is
four players from the Championship Section.
- Unit Championships are normally run during June through
August and must be done before Labor Day.
- Participation in a Unit Championship is allowed to any
player has not been given a black player card.
- Conditional Qualifiers

- If a player declines to play in the championship, his
or her slot is taken by the next highest finisher out of
his or her qualifying event.
- Championships Final Format.

- The format for the Championship Final will be a 16 player
elimination match tournament
- Each match will consist of four games.
