The ICU is NOT a membership organization. We are simply adult chess players who remember when the game of chess was more important than ratings, money, trophies, or politics.

ICU events are privately organized and by invitation only. Participants are expected to shoulder some of the work of providing these events. We reserve the right to remove future invitations for any player based on their behavior.

You may receive an invitation to attend one of our chess events because we believe that you are a serious tournament player who:

• cares passionately about the game of chess,
• has shown respect and courtesy to other players at previous events
• wishes to participate in over-the-board tournaments that conform to higher standards
• would enjoy the benefits of rated chess events with no entry fee, no membership fees and no politics.
